Doctor Warns NYC Smog May Worsen Respiratory Conditions
Amid the smog in New York City caused by wildfires in Canada, Dr. Dashi Bao, an internal medicine physician at Rendr, warned that patients with pre-existing pollen allergies might experience worsened symptoms of asthma and emphysema.
Dr. Bao highlighted the significant health risks posed by fine particles, also known as PM2.5, which can penetrate the lungs and bloodstream, causing long-term damage such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. He recommended wearing KN95 masks when the air pollution index exceeds 200, using air purifiers and humidifiers at home, and keeping an oxygen machine for those with existing respiratory conditions.
